I have a pair of C & J shoes that I bought on sale at the NY store. They are on the 330 last and are sized 9D. I almost always wear an 8.5, but these fit quite well. I am am wondering what the UK size of this shoe was. Anyone know?

Thanks

At the C&J Boutique in T&A? AFAIK, they use UK sizes.

EDIT: Hmm... if they're sized 9D, they're obviously not UK. Interesting.

Barney's sizes up 1 full size for their US-sized C&J (i.e. 10.5D US @ Barney's=9.5E UK).

Yes, in T&A. They are definately not UK 9. I figured they must be UK 8, but was not certain.

I think it more likely that they are 8.5. But call the shop; I believe that T&A itself sells certain C&J shoes that have U.S. sizes.

I see two possibilities,

they were intended for Ben Silver and somehow ended up at TA (Ben Silvers are not marked "Ben Silver" anywhere, even though they all use US sizing, and more than half their shoes are on the 330) either through return or closeout and are thus true US 9D,

or

they are actually UK market and size 9D (narrow) and you are wearing UK 9 narrow shoes (something like US 10 C).

I'd like to add this to mix as it has been something I've wondered about for a while.

I have 2 pairs of C&J for Polo. Both are 9 D and fit my foot very well and snug, esp. considering I have a narrow foot. The Sheldon monkstraps' box indicated the UK size as 8.5, but no width info.

This summer I was in London and tried on the Saville monkstrap (same shoe as Sheldon) in 8.5E and it was too loose and the 8 was definitely tight.

My question is do they make the Polo shoes on a narrower last? Based on my experience I would have to say yes.

Lastly, do have any current C&J for Polo owners ordered from Plal and if so what size do they order (on the 337)? For example if you were a 9D in Polo are you odering an 8.5 from Plal or an 8?

I'm all over the place on C&J sizing. Here's what I own, in order of how I like their fit:

C&J for Polo Benton 337: US 7.5 D. This is my best fit. Pretty much perfect
C&J Westfield 341: UK 6.5 F. I have a slightly wide foot, and the extra width helps. It's my second best fit.
C&J for Paul Smith 360: UK 6.5 D. I don't think this last is used in the standard UK catalog.
C&J Drummond 348: UK 6.5 E. It's slightly snug when I first put it on, but it feels great after a few hours of wear.
C&J Tetbury 348: UK 7. The 6.5 just didn't fit right, so I went with the 7, which is slightly loose. They are boots, so I tend to wear thicker socks, which takes care of most everything. Still a little roomy in the toe.
C&J for BB wingtip balmoral unknown last: 7.5 D. Snug. Would probably be ideal in a wider fit.
C&J Malvern 341: UK 6.5 D. Uncomfortably tight.

Not sure how helpful this is. I have odd feet. They are small and wide, and I have a lot of problems finding decent fitting shoes. The first five shoes, I believe, are the correct size for my feet in those particular lasts and styles. The BB is wearable, but I'd probably like a slightly wider size. The Malvern are practically unwearable.

May I ask a related question? What lasts/styles are generally better fitting for a foot that fits well into a typical Allen-Edmonds 11.5B? My 3A last Marteganis are a great fit.

I've never seen C&J's in person but several styles in the SHoe Damage thread have caught my interest.

The 337 (handgrade) and 341 and 348 (both benchgrade) tend to be the sleakest lasts, which may benefit your narrow foot. I also own a pair on the 360, which I think resembles the 337 somewhat. Those are harder to find, though.

The CJ for Polo are definitely narrower. I own the Bentons and they fit me quite well. I found that the CJ 337s are too wide for me throughout much of the shoe. The 348 is narrower and fits me much better. I own Bentons in a U.S. 8 and ordered a pair of 337s in a size 7E UK. They were similar in length, but were much wider throughout.
