I just ordered the Villiers. I also asked C&J if they could work up a balmoral boot in a handgrade version. I suggested the Belgrave in a boot style.

I received the following response, which intrigued me greatly:

Thank you for your e-mail and order

We can custom make/dispatch (6-8 weeks) the Belgrave model in a boot style, (£650 less tax) £565, plus £30 postage to you directly.

Any questions you have can be e-mailed, phoned 020 7929 2111 or faxed 020 7929 0110 to myself at Mail Order Dept.

Thank you.

Not at all. They were 355 pounds, plus 30 pounds shipping. I think it ended up being something like $540.00. Not bad, in my mind.

They already have a HG balmoral boot, the Avebury (paris collection).

Btw, the belgrave is not a balmoral, it's a regular oxford.

Balmoral = Oxford = closed lacing, Blucher = Derby = open lacing.

I think most people here who are able to pay $850-ish for bal boots would rather just pay the extra and go for EG Shannons.

Avebury group order?
Or can someone suggest a source for that (I seem to remember Foster and Sons but can't find the thread)?

Oh, sorry... I always forget you, Americans, don't speak british english. You know, for us, a balmoral is a specific kind of oxford.

No I think you were confused with the fact that technically oxford refers to a closed lacing shoe.
In the U.S people generalize an oxford as any laced shoe, just like you did when you referred to "regular oxford".

This is what we call a balmoral : an oxford (closed lacing shoe) with a long stitching running from the vamp to the quarters.

Another instance form G&G :
