Which do people prefer? Quality? Is a monk strap versitile enough to wear with business casual and/or a suit? Can this be worn with blue, tan, and charcoal? This is my first foray into English shoes, stepping up from my collection of Ferragamo and To Boot. The Grenson monk would be from Bennie's, or picking up the C&J from Barney's. I think the C&J from Barney's is comparable to the Malvern in chestnut.

C&J only has benchgrade at Barney's, right? If that's the case, the Grenson is going to be higher quality and probably a better deal from Bennie's. Fine with business casual and fine with a suit in the right sort of business environment.

If you look to benchgrade, I am partial to the C&J Grosvenor. Wear it with suits and odd jackets.

I would (and do) wear a monk with everything from jeans to suits.

I'm kicking myself that I didn't buy that very shoe when I caught the sale at Barney's.

They currently have the chestnut on sale. I believe it said handgrade, and was on the 248 last. The price is very similar to the Grenson monks from Bennie's.

No, Barneys still carry C&J handgrades. I posted about C&J Albanys I saw a week ago, and it's a handgrade model. While I was there I also saw several other handgrade models.

Barneys carried both Handgrade and Benchgrade.

Are you sure? I think Handgrade are on 330, 337 & 350 last. So far all the C&J HG I have seen were on 337 last.
