I have Cliffords in antique chestnut that I like but I'm just not the biggest fan of the elongated 337last. So I would probably lean towards the EG Inverness on 202 or 82 lasts, or even 89.

So I should choose the EG because they are faux-brogues?

I still don't get why the EGs are that much better.

Stick with the C&J.

The quality is good enough. Doubling the pricepoint to get to EG does not buy you 2x quality improvement.

From 6 feet away nobody can tell the difference between the two pairs of shoes.

Well then read more, dude. There are hundreds of threads on shoes here. It isn't very hard to see that the quality of EG shoes is better than C&J if you see both in real life.

Also, your question is what do you prefer, not which is objectively better, not which is better value.

How are the EG even close to double the pricepoint?

C&J Clifford = $575 (pediwear)
EG Inverness = $1100 + tax (sky valet)

That sounds about right.
