    Surprising.

I figured the M5 would be walking away with the latest comparos.

    Props to Audi.

how does the Audi manage to pull that kind of low end speed at the same curb weight as the others, while being down on power from the other two by that much? The AWD can't afford it that much of a holeshot can it, must be gearing?

torque, it makes good torque, awd, and good launch control

So there are people who still think that C&D provides any real insight on cars?

if we were all as knowledgeable as you the world would be a perfect place

it's up to the reader to determine the value of the data, if any

they give accurate stats, tested on the same day, same methods, that is worth something if you are a numbers guy (I'm not)

so hop off the high horse and join the rest of us peons who are just trying to have some fun and seek some idle distraction

it can't be that, it's down 100 lb-ft on both the BMW and MB, and all 3 cars are V8tt with some form of launch control I'm sure, so the field is fairly level apart from Audi's AWD...

For acceleration in dry, level conditions, the ideal back-to-front torque ratio is close to 100:0, so I doubt AWD is the reason for the Audi's acceleration numbers.

the S6 makes good torque over a wide band (not better, but a lot, and can use it better initially), not as much as the other 2, but only so much can be put down, it is traction limited, hence traction control
with awd you can put more torque down, 4 vs 2 wheel, as in Veyron, GT-r, etc.
so it makes good torque, can put more of it down, and has a launch control that can control it well, by 30 mph is 0.6 sec ahead of the AMG

from reading some stuff from TorSen, if the car is balanced correctly, 30:70 is best to launch
and since the S6 is nose heavy, the front may get more power than 30% since it will have more traction due to weight

the 1/4 bears this out, within a few tenths in ET, but big difference in speed
so the Audi gets a much better launch
    at 30 S6 1.2 vs 1.6 for the M5 and 1.8 for the AMG, it's 1/2 sec ahead
    by 60 they are even
    by 100 they've pulled a second on the S6

it all launch and awd, but after hooked up, that advantage goes away

    it is most of it
it has good torque, but without awd it couldn't apply it all
it has good launch control, but without awd it would not be able to apply as much torque
