I'm somewhat new to the world of dressing in anything other than a t-shirt and jeans, and am looking for a nice Tweed sport coat for the coming fall. This one that Jesse Thorn recommends in an article on Style Hunting matches what I'm looking for:
http://stylehunting.tumblr.com/post/...om-put-this-on I'm wondering where I could find such a jacket used in Seattle. I've looked at some thrift stores around (Good Will, etc.) but haven't had much luck. Are there any good thrift stores in Seattle for this type of jacket? I'm also considering buying one new. These two from J. Crew caught my eye: http://www.jcrew.com/mens_category/s...7569/17569.jsp http://www.jcrew.com/mens_category/s...7972/17972.jsp What do you think? Am I better off looking to pick up something used, or just biting the bullet and buying one new?

I would say buy it new... anything vintage wouldnt fit remotely close to our friend up above, and the money you will spend on alterations.... well, it would just be better to get new if you want to look like that.

Uh, what? A high quality tweed jacket for pennies on the dollar is a much better option then a really cheap one new. You have to patient to find one in your size though, but it can be done. In fact, I pulled out my thirfted harris tweed jacket to comfort it after your comment.
