buying rtw shirts a few sizes too small

i'm tempted to buy some of the ct shirts that are on sale because i like the patterns, but i would need to buy a size 15 (i think) for the shirts to fit me in the shoulders and cuffs. i wouldn't be wearing a tie with these. my true neck size is 16, and i'm wondering if the collar would look strange or too tight.

does anyone else here buy dress shirts too small for use without a tie?

The only shirts I wouldn't care much about that with would be short sleeved ones. Why not just buy one of their fitted line? You could also wear it with a tie and it'd be fitted enough for either way.

i'm concerned with the fit of the shoulder seams. i also can't stand it if the cuffs are too wide. i'm less picky about the waist measurement.

Well, hold on. I'm a 16 as well and most shirts fit me just fine in the shoulders. And have you bought from CT before?

no. but i've looked at their size guide and based on that it seems they assume a size 44 chest if you order a size 16. i'm a size 40. based on that chest measurement, i imagine the shoulders are very wide. i need a shoulder measurement of about 17 3/4", and i've never found that on a size 16 shirt.

Sizing down on the collar has been a time-long trick for open collar shirts.

I'd resist the CT deal and buy shirts that really fit.

In general, I find CT shirts to be quite large. I've even had some taken in. I think their fitted line may be the way to go. However, I'd be careful when buying a size down. I did this with a CT shirt once and I've still got it in my closet -- basically unworn. I'd have to check the size to be sure but it's either 1" or 1.5" down from my typical neck size and while the body fits well, the shoulders are tight. I'd check this measurement first to be sure and then build in some wiggle room for shrinkage.
