Gotcha. It requires a close inspection -were on the same page. But a guy in line at the grocery store, right age, right golf shirt, right tan, etc, and you wouldnt look twice at the watch except to admire it. He'd fool you 95% of the time.
I agree, when someone has the "whole package" it's much less likely you'll suspect they're wearing a fake...
I love getting the young 'bros' that come in acting like hot sh*t flashing their fake Panerai as they pull out their fake LV wallet LOL. I used to collect nice watches, and I would love going into Tourneau looking like a surfer, where they would completely ignore me until they saw my Navitimer or Sub, then their attitude would totally change. Very rarely would anyone in the general public notice unless they were a friend who knew I collcected watches, and then they would say "new watch?" as soon as they saw me, no matter what I was wearing.
If the OP is looking for a pure status symbol, I don't think you can do much worse than a watch...these days there are so many inexpensive but intricate looking watches that I doubt anyone will know the difference.
Kinda like spending too much time on SF, spending too much time on Timezone.com gives you a skewed opinion of the importance of a good watch...I really think 99% of people never notice them.
