Yes. The conversation always seems to devolve. I had a guy turn to me and, "This looks like it would fit you, do you want it?" I tried to hide the disdain for the style of hoodie (it was Merona or similar), but he caught it..
I then told him that half the stuff in menswear is my size and I'm really picky. He liked that answer better.
This, and...:
I hate when people try to give you stuff they think you'll want. Happened just the other day when a thrift store worker tried to hand me a "very nice Nautica shirt" she was putting out. Also witnessed a guy asking about 5 different guys what their size was because he had found an awesome Geoffrey Beene shirt. I assume he knew Mr. Beene personally because he kept calling it a Geoff Beene.
Was looking at scarves a few weeks ago and sidled over to the wimmin's area. One gal asked me if I was looking for men's scarves - I said yes, expecting to next tell her that yep I was aware I was in the wimmin's section, but instead she handed me one and said "this is sort of a guy's scarf." It was a NWT Arc'teryx wool scarf, for which I kindly thanked her.
That's fucked up. Funny but fucked up.
I was shopping at a GW last Sunday and they had just put out about 10 new jackets. I was flipping open the first when this tall thin guy sidled up next to me, placed his hands within an inch of mine on the rack and smiled seductively at me... I left and went to look at ties. I realized at that point I was not a true thrifter, I am trying to imagine what someone hardcore would have done in this case...
...I'd have told him I'd give him a reach-around if he found me some Tom Ford.
