Buying and Selling on eBay: Tips, Tricks, Problems & Questions

    Here's most of the template, minus whatever short description I would type in for any given item. I like to keep it real clean. Below the title of the item there is one photo, then the store logo, and then the description, etc. I used to have a section that described how I take the measurements, but I think that might be unnecessary unless I start getting a lot of those questions. The additional photos are below the gray boxes in a vertical format, very large.

    I like it, especially the interactive measurement chart.
    Note: in the PTP measurement pop-up description you have the word "jack" instead of "jacket".

    As far as feedback, I always leave it when the buyer pays, it's just my thing. There are buyers out there that never leave feedback. Actually 2 of my highest spending buyers have never left me feedback. It doesn't really bother me as long as they keep spending their money with me. Combined they have spent over $4000 in my store since January. I ran the numbers and I only have a 73% feedback received to items sold. I don;t ever send reminders, ebay does that automatically after a few weeks.

    As mentioned above, the feedback here on SF is a little bit of a PIA like 4 steps and a tad confusing the first time which I'm sure is the reason more people dont do it.

    Well now I'm not gonna tell you.

    Two button jacket, seems to be made of canvas...no indication of maker or material. Really ugly lining (as I had figured it would be based on the hideous wooden buttons). Going to be getting it relined and add new buttons tomorrow.

    Despite my description, I'm really happy with it. The material is super interesting...I didn't buy it for the lining or the buttons ^_^

    Shipped to Seoul.

    Ahhhh, I knew I had seen Claghorn somewhere else recently. That was a strange jacket for sure. The whole reason I picked it up. I searched my international listings, but it never came through tagged as international for some reason.

    Thanks for the feedback (and the proofreading). What ticks me off is that I somehow lost the base PSD I created them all from.

    And wow, 73%? I guess if they keep buying, that's what really matters, but you'd think a regular that was happy with your service would actually be willing to say so. I really don't understand some people.

    So after leaving great stuff on the racks for a long time because it didn't fit me, I decided to finally take he plunge and pick up stuff for trading and ebay and my first listings went live last night. I didn't include international shipping and assumed, now I know wrongly, that that would mean those needing international shipping wouldn't be able to bid.

    So the one bid I've received is from Singapore and the buyer messaged me for a shipping quote. But get this, this buyer has 0 feedback. Ok, everyone has to start somewhere, right, but the buyer has been a member of EBay since May 2010! Over two years on EBay without ever winning an auction.

    So, what would you do?

    The percentage is based on the last 12 months. Does he have any feedback, from more than 12 months ago?

    You can individually select the countries you do not ship, and it will block the bidder.

    No feedback at all as far as I can tell.
    I've now blocked all the countries that appear to be problematic mentioned in this thread and added buyer restrictions, but I'm still left with what to do about this bidder. The auction is for 10 days so it's not urgent (unless he chooses the BIN), so I guess I just give him the quote for international shipping?

    On that note, it seems like some here (Spoo) go with Express shipping internationally, while others use priority. Is it a matter of tracking, speed, or protection that sways people?

    It's up to you, you can always cancel his bid and them block him if you are worried about it. I always try to give folks the benefit of the doubt. However it is weird he has no feedback for 2 years, but I guess it's possible. I have had a few transactions to Singapore with no issues. Sure, you can find bad buyers from all corners of the world, but there are far more good buyers than bad.

    As for shipping internationally, I generally ship priority. First class only if the buyer agrees to take full responsibility in the case of lost packages (which I realize probably wouldn't hold up in a dispute). First class does not usually track outside of the US. I typically base my decision on the value of the item I am sending. The best way is probably registered mail, but it is a pain in the butt.

    I would say this is probably sound advice. I would be incredibly skeptical though for a simple reason: he didn't email you before he bid. I find that it's a red flag that something isn't right when they commit to it first rather than inquire whether you offer international shipping and what that cost might be. If I bid on a shirt or sweater and win and then ask about shipping, what if the seller says it's $100? I'm either locked into the transaction or cancel and the seller has to relist, not very considerate on either of our parts.

    Basically it's a pressure tactic that makes a seller feel as though they have to offer international shipping even if they didn't want it in the first place simply because the bid is already on the item. It's much easier to say no to the question if a bid hasn't been placed.

    Having said that, I did have a listing with shipping only to Germany and Austria and someone from the UK won. They had bid without asking me what the price would be to ship it. After I sent them an email explaining that the shipping price is actually higher to the UK, they understood. My logic isn't always so accurate :satisfied:

    Anyway, if you choose to allow the bid, make sure you charge the appropriate amount to ship it in a safe manner. International shipping can be pricey from your eyes, but many international buyers are aware of this but it's still worthwhile to shop from ebay.com instead of our home countries.

    I'm certainly not averse to shipping internationally, but I hadnt planned on it until I got the hang of Ebay and shipping in general. If he had a history I would be okay with it, but clearly an account with no history has no skin in the game. I've responded to him regarding his lack of transactions considering his membership time and explained the true cost of shipping and I'll await his response.
