I guess it wouldn't hurt to add this to all my BINOBO listings...given that the BIN price is only selected about 8-10% of the time, this still can help guarantee payment for those purchases. Although I have plenty of OBO's who decide not to pay after sending in their offer that was accepted; in which this selection of "immediate payment" would not change a thing on.

I agree that if a seller prefers to allow a week for a buyer to pay for a BIN then he should be allowed to do so. But that has nothing to do with my contention that a seller should not be forced to allow a buyer to take an item off the market without paying for it. I don't care in the least whether BIN with a Pay Immediately requirement helps, hurts or is indifferent in respect to making sales.

My ebay sales are in six figures every year and that is exactly why I don't like the Pay Whenever You Want Plan. I do not want extra time for shipping. I want to pack it and ship it right now. About 10 times per day (and about 5 minutes before I go out the door to drive to the post office) I check ebay and Paypal for sold items. If I get paid for an item a couple of minutes before I head out the door for the post office that item ships today. I immediately find, pack, and weigh each package, then enter it into Paypal Multiorder Shipping. Doing the process that way has cut my errors down to very near zero.

Whether someone else does it the same way or differently does not matter to me. But mandatory ebay layaway dicks up my system because it causes items to be floating in that nether region between sold and unsold.

Exactly right. As I mentioned before, I recently set up a new ebay account and a new Paypal account to keep some personal dealings apart from my business accounts. I had forgotten that ebay has these dumbass rules for newbs.

Well I understand your argument and frustration over the system. From my best of knowledge, what you can do is turn that PayPal account you are using for this secondary eBay into a business account. From what I know, there really is no other differences from a personal to business account except for the fess incurred when sending funds via goods. Have you thought about just doing a quick upgrade to eliminate this ordeal?

EDIT: Just read the above mentioned. How long do you have to wait for these "dumbass rules for newbs" to go extinct and allow your secondary account to mimic your primary?

Rock on. As an active smoker, I know I need to quit and am giving it some thought vs. just knowing I need to. Since I work from home I can pretty much get up and walk outside anytime the urge strikes so that just makes it too easy to feed the need...but lately I've been keeping mental notes on what triggers a craving and what allays it - surprisingly, being totally distracted by something for only 2 or 3 minutes will reset my "crave" button for another hour or better.
You can totally do it and I wish you all the best. Smoking is so limiting, and not just in a physical sense...like, you think about flying to Berlin or something and then you're like "shit, 10 hours on a plane - I'll go nuts!" Or, you go out at 11pm to buy a pack just to make sure you have some for tomorrow. Really gets in the way of normal living.
I wouldn't worry too much about eating a bit more while quitting - I've had friends who gained a few while quitting smoking / drugs / booze, then got so healthy as to be at the other end of the spectrum - they were able to work out, get some exercise that they could not before. Shoot - my Dad quit smoking cold turkey after 30+ years of 2 packs a day and I'm convinced he's currently in better shape than I am.
Enjoy your smoke-free lifestyle and it'll get easier, bit by bit. No harm in rewarding yourself at the 1 week, 1 month, 2 month etc levels either - figure the amount of $ you saved by not smoking all that time and spend half of it on something you want. Maybe keep track of money saved just for fun - see the $'s add up after a month or two, and perhaps put a percentage of that right into a savings account or increase your 401k contribution (or along those lines - whatever works for you), and you're making money by not smoking. Reward system works great for most folks - whatever your bent is - making more $ (by spending less $), having some nice shell longwings, saving for the future, new PlayStation...whatever...you know your own carrot best, so set your goals and go for it!

As someone who's just starting out selling and who only does BINOBO I'd like nothing more than the buyer paying as soon as they BIN. The only disadvantage I see from the buyer's point of view is that when they make multiple purchases and want the seller to combine shipping. If they have a few days to pay, they have time to contact the seller and make this request, wait for the seller to send a new invoice, and then make the payment.

Like I said, I'm new to ebay selling, so perhaps there's a way around this.

I believe with BINOBO, if you submit a counter offer to the buyer and he/she accepts then he/she must pay immediately.

    +1....

They were beta testing that for a while, but sometime, last week or the week before that, they went back to the old way.

Enjoyed your kind words and took it as an encouragement to keep pushing forward.

And you are correct sir, I sure know my own carrot as well as my own stick. What I don't fully know is by which one I'm more motivated by, I would have to say my stick. Avoiding pain is usually my biggest motivator.

Thank you again, I have a few more hours to tick a complete week free of nicotine.

It's tough, I am now 14 months smoke free after 30 years as a smoker. The thing that got me through is I work from home, so I stayed away from my smoking buddies and stayed near my wife who gave me encouragement. Also my youngest son looking at me with sad eyes when I was outside smoking asking why I was killing myself...

It does get easier, I rarely think about it anymore although the other day I was stuck in traffic and some dude in front of me blew smoke out his window and I got the strongest urge. Now though, the cravings only last a few seconds and they amuse me more than anything. Although if you get me drunk and put me around smokers, all bets are off which is why controlling who you hang out with is very important early on. You just have to stay away from the smokers in your life. Good luck, and I have to say it is worth it I feel better, smell better, and have more money to spend on clothes!

Although my nose has become hyper-sensitive. I seem to smell every bad odor out there, bad breath makes me nauseous and I never really noticed it before.

Do you guys like to remind buyers to leave feedback if they are happy with their purchase? I've sold a lot of items, and then never hear from the buyer again.

I don't bother. Ebay will also send them reminders to do so after a while. I know my dad sends a message when he ships a package saying thanks for the purchase and to please leave feedback when they receive it if they're happy. He does have a higher percentage of feedback returned than I do, so it must have at least some effect.

I always wait for the buyer to leave feedback first. Want to make sure they're happy with everything. The other day, I went through and left feedback for about 30 listings that were more than 2 weeks old. I ended up getting about 3 of those people to leave feedback within a day or two.

I leave positive buyer feedback as soon as they pay - I have no reason not to. I don't remind buyers or ask for feedback in return. I've only had one negative, and was able to leave an explanatory follow-up note, but that was almost a year ago before I knew about feedback revision. I do send a separate message to all paid buyers, thanking them, letting them know what day it will be shipped, and how to find their tracking # on eBay...plus to contact me directly in the event of any questions, issues or problems; to this I might add a blurb re: leaving + feedback.

This. Otherwise you just end up driving yourself batty. The folks that will leave feedback will leave feedback and those that don't, don't.

Let's say that the seller leaves positive feedback as soon as the buyer pays and then the buyer opens a case later on for whatever reason. Does the positive feedback that the seller originally left affect the outcome of the case at all?
