I took a bit of a break from styfo and thrifting for flipping purposes for quite a while as I was getting burnt out. Anyone have ideas/tips on how to reduce burnout they'd like to share? Might be a decent discussion topic
After I quit doing drugs and drinking seven years ago thrifting kinda filled the addiction so burnout hasn't been a problem yet lol I obsess over what might be coming out on the next rack.

The sure-fire cure for burnout is an honest-to-goodness thriftening. I cannot begin to tell you the number of times I have thought "OK, I'm done with this", then walked into a store or estate and had something magical happen. Utterly addictive. Plus, it often happens where/when you least expect it.

You need those magical moments, because the only part of this entire deal that lights up your neurotransmitters is the kop: walking in on that grail when you least expect it. The rest is pure unadulterated mind-numbing drudgery (sorry, photography enthusiasts). This is why I try to keep backlog to a minimum.

The "ching-ching" of a sale on the iPhone is marginally satisfying, but not enough to undo burnout, as it lacks the unexpectedness and serendipity of the stellar kop, and, let's face it, is most always for less than you were hoping the day you bought it.

If I were you, I'd go explore somewhere you haven't been and see what is brought to you by what I call "intentional chance" . . . aka "you get what others don't, by doing what others won't". And, if you have backlog, get it finished. I always feel 20 years younger and ready to ROCK when I'm caught up. YMMV, of course.

That's the best thing about thrifting/flipping. If I'm feeling burnt out, I just don't go out for a couple weeks. I might hit 1 or 2 stores here and there but then I just mostly look for stuff for me. Then I let my listings play out. When I get excited about it again, I can go nuts.

He just thrifted a belstaff croc jacket!
Well there's your answer. After a massive burst of elation like that, it's not unusual for the brain to go into dysphoria, or what the French call "ennui", a kind of existential boredom. I've had that happen after a massive thriftening, wen it feels like there's no point continuing, as you're never going to be able to match what you just did: it's all downhill from there. Then, as @My Main Man says, you just bag it for a while until it comes back spontaneously, which it will.

If there's a Half-Price Books chain (or similar) in your area, you could start hitting those up for some sweet calming intellectual finds...

Of course, the resale value will likely be nill, but the hunting is fun, you might stumble across something new and exciting, and there are worse things to let pile up in your house.

Kit lense will be fine for product photos? I was thinking of attempting to purchase this for my eBay shots:

Look at this on eBay http://www.ebay.com/itm/182775024977

Right now I hate photograph in stuff, so hoping if I got a good setup I'd find some enjoyment out of it.

I used to have the 28-105 equivalent of that lens. It was perfectly fine. You most Likely won't be able to tell the difference between that and a higher end lens.
