I've decided to buy myself a trench. It has to be either french blue/navy or beige (which one is most versatile?). I am thinking about getting a Burberry like this one:

Is there any other brands I need to be aware of before deciding on a trench from Burberry? How is Burberry quality-wise compared to other brands?

My budget: $800

The Burberry trenches are very well made. Should last you quite a while. You can also find them pretty frequently on B&S or ebay for around $150.

Burberry is basically king of the trenches, many brands are just as good, even better, but really you'd just end up wishing you'd bought one.

I'm more than happy with my Aquascutum! Plus I don't feel like such a brand whore

P.S. Who's the golfer that is sponsored by Aquascutum?

I'm happy with my BB DB.

If I wanted a Burberry I would have bought one. I am so sick of seeing their damn check pattern everywhere.

Whatever you do, get a DB one.

In which case I would go for Aqua. Their sales (at least in England) are legendary, I got my DB trench for £220 down from £998. Not sure what kind they have in the States, but B&S is occasionally flooded with them.
