Button holes at bottom of a dress shirt

Hi all - wonder if you can help.

I've purchased a Dunhill dress shirt and it has stud buttons throughout. At the bottom, it has a tag which hangs down with a button hole on.

Does this fasten onto a button inside the trousers? I've not got too much experience with Dinner suits etc.

I believe you are correct, the hanging button hole is to anchor your shirt to your trousers, however its not something I have ever had, so I could be wrong.

I *thought* that's what it was for but I was trying to remember if I had any buttons on the inside of the waist and my memory failed me...

that is a very good asumption for someone who claims to be unknowledgeable on the subjext I'd say you hit it right on the nail.

assuming it is at the bottom of the shirt front. there should be a button opposite in the back. or visa versa. this would be to button together and prevent the shirt from pulling out of your trousers. although this might annoy other things inside your trousers. if there is no button on the other side, then i have no other idea.
