button hole on a tie?

I have a cashmere tie that has a fabric loop around the blade of the tie. On this loop, there is what looks like a button hole. Does anyone know what the functional purpose of this is? Is it a way of securing the tie to your shirt?

Clip it to your shirt. Like a tie clip. Not sure if that is correct but that appears to be most logical explanation.

I agree. I can't imagine what else it could be used for.

That is exactly what it's for. Stops 'flapping'. These are on sale for the same purpose.

What if you don't have a button at that exact spot?

Correct. Massimo Bizzocchi ties have these button holes too.

There is another reason for button holes from an email sent to us a while back (emphasis added): "The button holes work perfectly, I find the closest shirt button hole and the tie stays straight and pops up." We rarely get requests for button holes but it is an interesting idea, we have done them both by hand and with a machine.

True, depending on exactly where the button on your shirt is, you do get a bit of a popping effect. Kind of like roll on a lapel I suppose...

My Massimo Bizzocchi and Brioni ties have the same button hole on a small slider. It slides up or down to align with a shirt button.
