Are these normally accepted, if so what would you look for when buying them?

There have been plenty of threads about the topic over the past couple of weeks. Do a search.

They are accepted.

I look for: fit, style, etc, the same things one would look for in a long sleeve button down. I also hate the look of long short sleeves! I usually shorten them myself to a nice socalled 'girlie' length.

Do you generally tuck it in, I find tucking in short sleeves can sometimes look abit daggy.

I have about 50 s/s buttondowns....so yes, it's officially cool to wear one, and is the official casual shirt of Kool Kounty.

and who's doing this "accepting" when asking if it's "normally accepted"?

I personally don't like them very much because I like to roll up my l/s shirts, but I've seen plenty of examples of people pulling off s/s shirts. A good example would be some of Get Smart's looks in the What Are You Wearing Today? thread.

Wow, 50 s/s buttondowns alone. Are you able to wear them all, weather permitting, or do most of them get buried and rarely see the light of day? I think I have about 10 and only about 5-6 are worn on a usual basis.

I like the look though, especially the subtle military style ones.

Get Smart, what brands make up these 50-odd shirts? I'm having a hard time finding a few s/s button downs that I'd like, so I want to branch out.

I recently bought a linen s/s shirt with a somewhat straight hem. I plan to wear it untucked. This is the first s/s button up shirt I have bought in years.

Most of them are Fred Perry or Ben Sherman 60s style s/s buttondowns and there are probably about 10 that get worn regularly and the rest make an appearance rarely and just sit in the closet. Then I have about 10-5 that are more modern styled (Paul Smith, Diesel, Penguin, even a Gstar among the herd) that are for specific moods and fits. Then add to that a few vintage shirt-jacs...so maybe more than 50 in all.

^^^ mostly Fred Perry or Ben Sherman. same style just different fabrics. been wearing them for the better part of 15 years now so old habits die hard.

I used to hate them, but if it has a slim fit, squares off your shoulders nicely and is short and slim enough in the arm (but not too much), it can look really good.
