Butt of Lewis Heavyweight (30 oz.) Tweeds?

Does anyone have experience with the 30oz. monsters offered by Callum at Butt of Lewis? Thinking of ordering some for next winter for an overcoat / sportcoat hybrid, and would appreciate some feedback.

30 oz is too heavy for a sportcoat. I have a 19oz that's too heavy, really.

It'll be a SC / OC hybrid - one that I intend to simply wear above my shirt when the temperature falls below freezing (in lieu of a suit jacket + 18-22oz. overcoat.) Possibly something like this, without the slanted pockets on the lower chest but with a throat latch:

I have some of his regular 20oz. Harris and its great stuff.

I also like the idea of a sportcoat/overcoat hybrid. How do you intend to change the pocket configuration?
