Buton collar shirt with jumper

Is it ok to wear a button down collared shirt with v-neck jumper/sweater without a tie? Going to my sons University interviews next week and i want to look smart but not overly formal.

Yes, of course. In the UK, they only sell button down shirts for this sort of casual use.
