Business Casual Choices

I have two business casual events in the next 2 days (both school related).

The first one, today, is a mock interview for my co-op job class and tomorrows is a presentation in our engineering design class.

I don't have too much at my disposal (living in a tiny room in a tiny apartment with 5 other guys doesn't offer much for storing clothes). I've got a brown collared shirt, hounds tooth white dress shirt , my midnight blue suit, black loafers, white and green driving shoes, a pair of jeans that I could pull off business casual with, and 2 ties (of similar style).

The biggest problem has been defining business casual. Some instructors won't accept jeans, while others feel they're fine as long as the shirt is tucked in.

I'm really at a loss for the best combo that won't seem pretentious in the situations (but I do want to look dashing).

A pair of khaki and a shirt is probably enough for both events. For school, that is business casual already.

Alot of students don't even bother dressing up for presentation but it does help improve your marks slightly eventhough the teacher probably will not admit it.

No, you could not.

+1. Isn't business casual: no need to wear a suit or tie but please wear a dress shirt, dress pants or khakis, an horrible device to clip your blackberry to your belt and dress shoes?

+1. Jeans are casual wear, and half-sleeve shirts and polo shirts aren't necessarily considered business casual at most places. Wear khakis or nice slacks with dress shirts, tucked in. And wear matching belt and shoes, polished (that implies that the shoes are polishable; i.e., no sneakers). You could wear a good sweater or a sport-coat/odd jacket with the attire, since it is winter (at least for some of us, any way).

go with the suit, white shirt, black shoes (since you dont have brown ones) and a tie... there's nothing wrong with being overdressed once in a while... if you need an excuse, tell people you have something (more cool) to do later...
