What's the point? It just seems to be a much better workout to do the pushup and the jump.

Then again, I imagine most of the people in the UK Royal Navy aren't using burpees for the same goal I am.

Edit: wow that's pretty rough just to show you're in physical shape to play an instrument!! It all seems easy until the swimming.

Sure. And it would be even a "better workout" if you carried an extra 30 lbs, added a pullup, punched and kicked a heavy bag between each burpee... You can always make it a "better workout" but this is the base burpee

Looks pretty badass. Gotta try it someday.

I did those in a workout probably two years ago now. They are stupid... never doing them again.

I don't care if the the Royal Navy does them, but those are incredibly sissy burpees...

You don't think a 7 minute mile is pretty average?

It should be 10-11, not 9-11 otherwise it overlaps with the above average.

All the rest are done in one minute increments.

I'd say 7 min miles is pretty average.

LOL all you who claim burpees without pushups are somehow "*****" I challenge you to try them. Come back and let us know how many you can do and in how much time.

I always thought what gld posted was a Squat Thrust and that a burpee wasn't a burpee unless it involved a push up and jump, whereas a squat thrust had neither.

A 7 minute mile is definitely NOT the average, espcially in combat boots.

Burpees have the jump but not pushup. A burpee without the jump is a squat thrust.

Leap up as high as possible from the squat position.
Repeat as fast as possible, striving for approximately 30 repetitions per minute.

Variants
Easier variants
No-pushup burpee: the athlete does not perform a pushup while kicking back his feet.
Non-jump burpee: the athlete does not jump in the air after step 3.
