Burgundy wax on brown shoes?

Just picked up some AE Burtons in "Bourbon" color. It's pretty much a dark brown with at most a hint of bourbon. Anyway, I'd rather these not get any darker. Would burgundy/cordovan color wax accomplish this, maybe even red them up a bit? I feel like using brown wax will just darken them too much. Thoughts?

Or you could use red cream/wax. That's what I do

I have several pairs of brown shoes that get a cordovan wax/cream treatment because I wanted them to take on a reddish hue over time. Cordovan polish does darken them though. If you want to preserve the color, I would suggest neutral or tan shoe polish, though I haven't tried it myself.

Are you referring to chili? AE makes a polish for that.

Bourbon is a color as well. I bet they make a polish for it as well, unless it's discontinued.

Cordovan-colored cream can make brown shoes look purple, depending on the original color.

Well, you can still do it a couple of times, see how it turns out, and either continue or switch to dark brown. I believe grimslade is talking about long term, because for the time being the effect is subtle.

Yes - the color of the shoe is going to overwhelm the color of the polish. Any change in color from just a different polish will slow and gradual

Exactly. If one tries to change the colour of the shoe using polish, it will just keep cracking and flaking.

Furthermore, you can switch to neutral colour when the shoe reaches a hue you like, and only occasionally use burgundy from then on.
