Burgundy Penny Loafers

I just bought a pair of these because I can't afford real cordovan leather anymore. But these shoes look almost like the finish is painted on the surface. I am concerned that it will peel or wear off and expose the true leather color underneath. In the past, I used to keep my shoes polished and nice looking to bring out the true color of the leather but I am unsure what to do about these to keep them looking nice.

Perhaps I should add that these are Cole Haan loafers. That may get a suggestion from others with this shoe experience.

I'm looking for ideas so I don't screw them up.
