Burgundy/oxblood oxfords in the office?

I’m working in a decently conservative environment (corporate law). I’m pretty junior so I don’t want to piss any conservative higher-ups off with my dress.

Dress code most days is suit with no tie. I see some brown (mid-to–dark brown) shoes in the office – otherwise it’s mostly black.

I have a pair of black captoeoxfords. I want to pick up some oxblood/burgundy captoeoxfords. Would that be too informal for the office – should I stick to dark brown instead? Or have I gotten the scale all wrong and are oxblood shoes just as formal as brown shoes?

Thanks!

Oxblood is fine for anything but extremely formal biz dress. If people don’t have ties on oxblood is fine.

Agree. Having worked in conservative corporate environments in Chicago (coincidentally the home of Horween # 8 oxblood), a dark oxblood sometimes reads as more conservative and refined than some browns to my eye.

I can't really imagine a workplace environment where oxblood oxfords would be inappropriately informal - absent some form of actual uniform requirement. Certainly anyplace where suits without ties is.... um..... actually a thing - we can rest comfortably in the knowledge that strict rules of formality do not govern.
