Burgundy grenadine tie & navy suit to a wedding??

Guest at a wedding in a few weeks. This isn't black-tie, however it is an evening event.

Question: Would my dark navy suit, solid burgundy grenadine tie (Ben Silver), and white shirt be appropriate for this semi-formal wedding? Or should I stick with a more traditional wedding tie? Any suggestions?

Thanks for the help - G

What's a wedding tie? (I'm not American, btw)

IIRC, they are those fairly plain looking black and white Prince of Wales check or other check ties. Typically worn with a morning coat.

You are correct. The ties should be some combination of black/white/dove gray. Some fairly typical styles include the PoW that you describe. Although for a higher degree of formality one should go with a Glen Plaid in black and white, whereas PoW would have a small degree of some other color in the pattern. You could also go with a black/white houndstooth, a gray or black solid satin, or a black/gray repp tie.

I'd say that if you aren't a member of the wedding party, the burgundy grenadine would be just fine.

However, this is exactly why I've stuck around here. At least we now have the option to wear a wedding tie now. I guarantee you, if I am invited to a wedding that is traditional and there is a remote possibility that someone there can appreciate it, you bet I will go buy one to wear.

These are appropriate for guests of the wedding, or just for those in the party?

This would likely be just fine, and certainly better than a navy tie with a Burgundy suit.
