Burberry prorsum quality vs Burberry?

How does the quality of the old Burberry prorsum/London lines compare to modern Burberry (without the different labels).

In my head the tier list is:
1. Burberry prorsum
2. Burberry
3. Burberry London

Is this actually true though?

Prorsum was never very high quality in the first place. Good designs, nice fabrics etc but construction wasn't on par with even mid tier "menswear" brands.

I've always read they made high quality items. Would you say prorsum was inferior to the London/new Burberry lines?

No, they've remained roughly on par, Prorsum is now Burberry "Catwalk" or black label.

I used to wear a lot of Prorsum and as I say; construction wise nothing special at all but the details / designs were incredible. The outerwear was IMHO the best going at the time design wise.

Burberry London is fodder stuff and IIRC their suits are made by Belvest (not to their higher quality) and their trousers by Incotex etc etc.

You'll probably get more answers to this over on Streetwear & Denim anyway, not much of a catwalk orientated crowd here.

“Catwalk”? Haven’t heard of that one but then I’m not necessarily a Burberry fan.

I think they still make the definitive trench coat but beyond that I’m afraid I don’t really understand them.

There's no name to differentiate what is shown on the catwalk anymore. It's just a black label with gold writing that says "BURBERRY". Call it Burberry Catwalk or Burberry Runway whatever you will etc...

The trench coats, particularly the "heritage" line are still superb. They differ in a number of details from the classic trench coats of the mid-20th century, so the coats are more of a variation on a theme than a faithful recreation. But they are long enough and still unmistakably Burberry. I like the current line as the shell is 100% cotton, making them a little more versatile for where I live. Burberry also makes really excellent overcoats for men and women, one of the few brands that makes overcoats that truly come below the knee. But you do have to sort through a lot of rubbish to find the classic stuff.

Burberry's women's wear is similar. There is an occasional superb piece hiding in a haystack of crazy stuff. And a cashmere Burberry scarf in the classic check is still a signature piece.

Does anyone know whether they offer bespoke or MTM trench coats? I recall reading online some time ago that they offered at least a made to measure garment.

As far as I know they do not. I asked this question locally last Fall and received a negative response.

I always found Burberry overrated. It's also become a 'chav' brand for football hooligans which really tarnishes their image.
