Bumps appearing on my Lobbs

I've posted the question on AAAC as well, my apologies for the duplication but there seem to be a number of knowledgable folks who frequent this board but not AAAC so I thought I'd ask here as well.

Here's a strange thing I've noticed. I have two pairs of relatively new Lobbs in black, a Towcester (classic line) and a Phillip II (prestige line). Both were polished with cream and then a wax polish.

Given the recent rain in NYC, both were hit with a mild amount of rain, which caused some bumps to appear on the toe caps. Since it has happened to both shoes on different days, I'm not sure what to make of this. It has only happened to my black Lobbs, and in calfskin (I understand the phenemenon might be common in shell cordovan).

The weird thing is that it's only the raindrops that are causing it - it doesn't bump the surface whent he shoeshine guys spray water during the waxing to help along the polish.

Two questions:

1) Why is it doing this?

2) Is there anything I can to to reverse it, or at least prevent it from getting worse, short of not wearing them in the rain?

I would try to avoid wearing them in the rain, if at all possible... I keep a pair of beater Allen Edmonds with rubber soles to wear on rainy days, and only wear my "good" shoes when it's dry out.

What did they say at the Lobbs store in NYC? That should have been your first stop.

Yeah, I'm planning to stop there this weekend.

I will try to get some pics this evening.

I've had a similar experience with other pairs of shoes. The bumps just subside with time ...

Don't you know that Lobb shoes are not supposed to be worn?

That's where you made the tragic mistake. Now you've effectively ruined it. Now you can't take pictures to show it off, you can't admire the sweet leather sole because it's scuffed, and the leather is creased and bumped!

I only wear my Lobbs with a plastic bag around them. Like grandma's couch.

I think they have something you can take to get rid of that problem.

Were the bags bespoke? Do tell!

Us po'folks use what's call galoshes, and they are one size fits all.

Those are referred to as "Lobb Knobs" and are described in detail in the care brochure you should have gotten with the shoes (that is, unless they are fake). I've now scanned and uploaded the first page of the brochure HERE

I have had the same problem with my Sutton in museum chestnut. The bumps do go away over time.

I try not to let them get rained on.

I don't remember the info in the brochure...Tarmac...your link was to a youtube music video....

Don't know where my brochures are.....or I'd check.
