And why are you hanging out with us, rather than doing your hour of yoga? [IMG]

I hate to belabour this anymore, but there are in fact material differences.  In a celebrity and wealth obsessed society, there is no obvious reason I would want to pretend to be a rather broke postdoctoral research fellow, a even poorer graduate or undergraduate student.  Maybe I'd do so because I want to write a book about my experiences online as a postdoc?  I can't think of anything better than that right now.  There might be a little more allure to pretend we are doctors and lawyers and investment bankers, but even there, the motivations would be murky.

On the other hand, there are obvious reasons (it would be great fun, for one thing) to pretend to be Sir Elton John, or Prince Charles, or George Michael ("Dear Style Forum:  I am George Michael... and I am not really gay.  Just a metrosexual") or David Beckham ("Dear George Michael: same here) or even Lakshmi Mittal, online.  You therefore have to give people a little more latitude for skepticism if you introduce yourselves as one of those.  If someone phoned me and told me he was Axel Rose, I'd think that I was probably going to be on an upcoming episode of the Jerky Boys.

A brother of mine volunteered with the Sisters of Charity in Calcutta for a summer. I've always meant to visit.

London is not that celebrity and wealth obsessed, as if you want to see somone famous, you merley need to go to a bar in the West-End or Soho.

Calcutta is a horible city, and is certainly not a good introducion to India, if you want to go, I would start with Bombay or Delhi, as they are much more westernised, and not such a shock to the system.

I am in my office on the 24th floor of a skyscraper in downtown Dallas at 6 PM on a Friday (what am I doing here anyway?) wearing a really ugly but extremely well-made button-down shirt by Trillion, blue jeans by Faconnable, and sandals by Born. My watch is some ol' Swiss Army watch from around 1990. Keeps the time, though.

    Well, America sure is.

Can't say I like that aspect of it too much, either.

If you want to go to work in jeans, you should definitely work in academia. If any guy under 60 shows up to work in anything other than jeans or khakis, he probably has a job interview or has to give a seminar to a funding agency.

I'm wearing an old Swiss Army watch, thick framed black glasses, a leather bracelet, Paper Denim jeans (ripped up in the back) a Paul Smith belt, a t-shirt from Northern England (the place - Manchester, I think it was) a (real) vintage green track jacket with a fist (power to the people?) printed on the left side, and Converse Chuck Taylors. Hey, doesn't anyone care?

Yoga at midnight, are you crazy [IMG] It is supposed to be done at the transitional stages of the day, i.e. morning to afternoon, afternoon to evening, evening to night, and night to day. [IMG]

Actually, to be honest, I only own one pair of jeans. I usually dress much nicer (slacks, jacket, etc.), but I'm doing a financial/operational turnaround of an advertising agency here and everyone (most everyone is in their 20's) dresses very casually every day. Artsy types, you know. I allow myself to wear the jeans on Fridays, just to fit in a little better with the staff and show them that I am capable of relaxing (not 100% true).

LA, I hope you don't get away with that at work. By the way, a manager which I just finished a video confrence with was wearing a grey suit, and he is 30, (working for me at Ispat Inland) [IMG]
