My love for not paying retail has given me the idea to fly back down to South America on a tight budget.

Has anyone ever traveled on a buddy pass?

I want to post on craigslist to find someone who works for an airline but I don't know how reliable it is.

Anyone have some strategies?

*and if she's good looking, rail her in the half-bathroom inbetween snack cart runs

I've never traveled on one, but one of my best friends is married to a flight attendant. He once gave a mutual friend and his wife buddy passes, and the recipient friend said they were a pain to use. Yeah, you fly cheap, but you also fly standby. It apparently took them forever to get on a flight, costing them vacation time.

Also, my grandfather used to work for Eastern back in the day, and he used to give them to family members. Eastern folded before I was old enough to use a buddy pass, but I've heard stories about family vacations where, say, my mom and grandmother would get on one flight, and the rest of the family would show up on a later flight.

I would imagine these types of problems are even worse now that pretty much every flight is packed to the gills with passengers.

I believe SF member Connemara got free flights once. PM him for more details.
