LP baby cashmere has a much softer hand than any Brunello cashmere I have ever gotten my hands on. That being said, some of the knits using baby cashmere do feel delicate and I would recommend wearing them with more caution. As far as cashmere sportcoats/outerwear go, there is no match for LP, with the exception of Kiton's ultrafine gauge cashmere, which is again, very delicate. I would stick to sportswear with BC, like denim and shirting.

the fit from BC is better than the "no shape" from loro piana...i tried some trousers and 2 sweaters from LP in 2018 and there was no shape at all...at least for my taste and build...im more of a slim fit
BC has some handwork for their cashmere sweaters as reinforce under the arm ..LP is too delicate also..so for me were 2 factors that kept me away from LP. For me BC, Colombo, and Kiton are way to go...i would love to see the other top tier cashmere makers to copy the under the arm handwork reinforce where is the most friction .

This is a very very late reply but here are my insights. LP cashmere and baby cashmere is probably the finest thread and softest feel cashmere I have ever got my hands on. The sweaters themselves are not very structured around the sleeves, arms and around the chest - there is a fair bit of drape in the sweaters. The shoulder, neck area is also more flowing and less structured. The cashmere itself is also extremely extremely lightweight. With Brunello, the sweaters are first of all thicker usually. The arms, cuffs, shoulders etc... are well structured and fit nice and snug to your body, which might be better if you are looking for actual warm from your cashmere sweaters. It was a more rustic feel too ... idk how to describe. Certainly not as velvety and soft as LP cashmere / baby cashmere though. both will be very very very comfortable. If you are talking about outerwear coats and jackets, just go Loro Piana. Get their storm system jackets and coats... they are unbeatable. Brunello's outwear is also just ludicrously expensive, compared to LP's offerings. Sweaters is a toss up. Quality are both exceptional. BC is better for everyday wear, LP you gotta be more careful when wearing. Also I've found LP sweater tends to pill a bit more.

Curiously I also felt that Loro Piana sweaters had a poor fit, as I tried them on many years ago. More recently I tried other garments which fitted much better.

Personally, I don't have any knits either from Loro Piana or Brunello Cucinelli and, not wanting to diminish their quality and prestige, I think that there are better values in Italian and Scottish cashmere knitwear.

Colombo, Malo, Fioroni and Fedeli are all very solid and recommendable in Italy.

In Scotland the situation is not so clear, as the classic producers of the past either have disappeared or have different ownership.

Two classic and reliable brands are certainly William Lockie and Johnstons of Elgin.

Ballantyne, maybe the most luminous brand of all, after having changed ownership and finally gone into bankruptcy, has been resurrected, but it's more fashion oriented and less subtantial by now, with the production spread among Scotland, Italy and China.

Personally, I'm following with interest and hope the reviving of McGeorge of Scotland, but I have the impression that it does not run roundly, as the online shop is eternally coming soon.
