Im considering a brown DB pinstripe suit to break up the charcoal/navy oligarchy currently in my closet.

Any thoughts on, or images of this look?

My fear is, that if done even slightly wrong, it will come off as gangster (in the Cagney fashion)

I have brown chalk that I love. I don't really like precise worsted stripes in brown. I would not get brown pin, personally. The contrast between the city business formality of the pattern and the color is too dissonant for me.

If you scroll down to the middle of the page, Mimo Spano wears a gorgeous DB brown (or bark....brown/charcoal mix) flannel with an off-white/beige chalk stripe. http://www.filmnoirbuff.com/article/...parel-arts-man Although he is Italian...he doesn't look gangster, just well dressed Nice article by FNB and a follow up with Mimo done later

I am considering a brown chalk stripe, but not DB. I think it could work well even for business and like you I'm fed up of an unrelieved diet of charcoal and navy.
Director of Duchamp has an interesting look going on this page, though it's not DB:

It looks like a very dark brown to me?

Do it! As far as I can tell, double-breasted is the only way brown chalkstripe works.

Your wife may never serve grapefruit with breakfast again, but you'll look great.

I've seen a few that looked nice, but can't see myself in one.

I think the secret to pulling it off is in the tailoring and accessories.

This tie^^^ is very nice.

I find the Chinese paisan's look more contemporary

I liked the cloth on the Chinese man's DB compared to Manton's (maybe only because the quality of his picture was better), but the cut and style of Manton's is more to my liking

The Chinese man's DB has the bottom buttoned only and this just seems like too much vast empty space...

Manton...who made this DB for you and whose cloth & weight was it?
