Hi All,

I'm looking into suggestions for a brown brogued boot for the winter.

So far, I'm looking at these:

Trickers Espresso Burnished Stow Boot:

Anything else I should be considering?

A nearly black brogued boot with plain leather sole for winter?

Get both! That's what I just did, more or less. Tan Stows and Cigar Shell Alden wing-tips.

I haven't worn either yet.

One thing to consider is whether you're looking for something somewhat sleek or something with more presence. I recently bought the Orvis brogue boots by AS and returned them after deciding they were more boot than I wanted. The Trickers boot, I imagine, is in that mold.

Excellent point - I'm starting to think the Trickers might be just that.

Sleek is definitely a factor.

I'm awaiting delivery of these Barker Harrison's : http://www.pediwear.co.uk/barker/products/1829.php

I've got the Barker Nairn in the same last (also from the International Collection) which fit me well and to my eyes are a tad better quality than Loake 1880 range.

I just received a pair of the Espresso Stows from Pediwear and quite happy. Definitely not a sleek boot but damn good looking with jeans or dressier pants as well. Price shipped at current exchange is around $300, definitely an OK deal. Those Aldens will run you quite a bit more. Comfortable right out of the box. One thing to note, the color seems to me somewhat darker than the picture but I am colorblind . . .

To poster # 2, when exactly would you propose to wear these, midsummer? Assuming you're walking in the city and not tramping across the heath, a heavy leather sole should be just fine in winter.

If you want to spend a lot of money and wait six months (or more), order Shannon II from Edward Green in Dark Oak. Double-soled, or even rubber soled. Great for winter, and much sleeker than the above examples.
