I've seen alot of threads on here regarding the merits of brown shoes with grey suits. My question is it ok to wear say a mid grey lambswool v neck sweater with a chocolate brown shirt underneath and a chocolate brown jacket ? Basically i cant seem to tell if brown and grey work really well together or not.

I am crazy about brown and gray. If you get it right, the effect is sophisticated, elegant, and intriguing. Taupe is my favorite, neutral color. It's a mixture of brown and gray . . . what's touchy about taupe is that it can look a little like, mauve. Has to lean midway between gray and brown, to avoid that undesired shade.

they go splednid, just keep them along the same density: light grey with lightbrown/tan; medium grey with medium brown; charcoal grey with dark or chocolate brown.

Brown and grey, or why I love fall. They work wonderfully together. Not exactly what you're asking, but relevant nontheless. Taken from The Sartorialist:

Pic not working, Jamison. You can't remotely link them, and a click through doesn't work, either.

Ahhh, I was wondering why white-on-white was "relevant nonetheless"

Thanks guys....I do agree with you that grey and brown can be an fantastic combination....
People tend to rely on etiquette becaue it is safer especially if you're lacking confidence in your sartorial sixth sense....
I do remember loving wearing brown shoes with different mix and being looked at by the purists as being offside..
I really love brown in all tones....From mid-brown,walnut ,Parisian brown,Dark brown museum to dark oak antique....
Brown ,especially for shoes and suits is more versatile ,warm and rich......
I wear a nice dark brown suit at work and the women are absolutely crazy about it...
You need to follow such rules and try as said earlier to mix the right brown with the right grey but as ever everybody is different...
I do tend to prefer dark tone even in brown or creating a real contrast....
John Lobb is offering beautiful shades of brown and you are really into the personalised patina ,Berluti can help you to create your own shoe colour...
Thanks guys for breaking some long-lived stereotypes still very much alive on this forum...
Elegance is about trying ,learning and also admitting that we're evolving and looking for different things fashion wise...

I really like the brown and grey combination. My favorite pair of pants is a pair of Zanellas that are a medium grey with a good deal of brown flecks. They also have a somewhat rough surface texture that I think works really well with the color combination.

I like brown/grey as long as their color values arent too similar. dark brown with light grey or vice versa look awesome, a brown/grey of similar darkness/lightness doenst look as good imo
