Just saw this on Ivy Style (thanks Christian)

http://www.ivy-style.com/brooks-to-w...nordstrom.html

I copied the text of the press release below:

New York, January 26, 2011 - Nordstrom, Inc. (NYSE: JWN) and Brooks Brothers announced a partnership today to begin selling Brooks Brothers menswear in select Nordstrom stores and on Nordstrom.com.

"We are very excited about this new partnership and honored to be working with Nordstrom," said Paulette Garafalo, Brooks Brothers' President of Wholesale. "Brooks Brothers and Nordstrom share the same values and a long-held tradition of offering exceptional products and unparalleled customer service."

"Our presence at Nordstrom allows us to reach new customers. It also gives us an opportunity to speak to the increasing number of younger men who are either drawn to our legendary brand or may be just discovering it," Garafalo added.

"We know many of our customers admire and appreciate the Brooks Brothers brand for its heritage and quality," says David Witman, Nordstrom General Merchandise Manager, Menswear. "We're thrilled to be able to offer Brooks Brothers merchandise and we think our customers will respond well to it. "

Beginning in July 2011, Brooks Brothers will be available in Nordstrom stores nationwide including Seattle, Chicago, Tyson's Corner, VA and Dallas. The collection consists of tailored clothing, outerwear, dress furnishings and collegiate-themed sportswear including updated versions of some of Brooks Brothers' most iconic items; many of which feature youthful styling and slimmer fits. Much of the fall 2011 line has been inspired by Brooks Brothers nearly 200 year history with an emphasis on mid-century campus classics re-imagined for today. Nordstrom will also carry the newly launched "Fleece" collection for Boys and Girls which is designed by Nikki Kule.

The arrangement with Nordstrom marks Brooks Brothers' notable return to wholesale; a business the brand can last trace back to 1853.

I can't decide if this is worrisome or interesting.

this does not sound good to me but it may be a good bottom line decision, how many customers will they gain vs how many they will actually lose (not how many will complain but still shop)

So, you go online and now can buy from both Brooks Brothers and Nordstroms? That doesn't make much sense.

So, they are now selling in Nordstrom retail stores in the specific areas listed where retail Brooks Brothers stores are already? That doesn't make much sense.

Meh, doesn't bother me, unless as intent speculates it means a further decline in quality.

Frankly, the only thing I've been buying from BB lately have been the original cotton must-iron OCBDs.

What is the specific reasoning for this decision resulting in an automatic decline in quality? Is the entire Brooks Brothers line going to immediately become inferior just because some of their stuff will now be sold at Nordstrom?

if demand begets a greater requirement in supply, BB may resort to cutting corners in order to meet quanititties, which is why i think some people think there may be impending doom.

personally, it makes it easier for me to buy things on sale, as now i have 2 places to look around as opposed to 1.

That makes sense...I've never been a huge BB fan in the first place, their stuff never seems to fit me right.

I hope they don't cut corners in quality control, but I'm excited to see slimmer fitting apparel from them. Even their current slim fit shirts still tent around my waist.

Get the Extra Slim Fits. Those work better.

I was actually referring to their trousers when i said their clothese didn't fit me very well. Their jackets in a 40L fit me half-decent, but the matching pants look like something MC Hammer would wear circa 1990 on me. I already have loads of MTM dress shirts, so I don't really have any need to get any from BB.
