Hey Guys,

I see a couple of interesting pairs of BB shoes on sale. The first is a loafer that was priced at $358, now on sale for $268. The BB model is 135H.
The loafers are "made in the USA" so I imagine that they're Aldens. Does anyone know the Alden model name and retail price?

The second pair is model 274H, called "Peal and Co. Cap-toe Shoe ". Any info on this pair?

Thanks

Dan,

the USA mades are Alden. The Peales we are not sure of. We know for sure that Sargent makes at least the ones that have the double row of brass slugs on the heel, but we don't know whether Crockett and Jones also make certain pairs of the Peales (notably, the Algonquins and the spectator cap toes).

Are there two rows of brass brads on the heel or just one? Two rows means that it's made by Alfred Sargent; one row means that it's made by Crockett & Jones.

90% sure those are what we think are the C & Js. I remember that one of the captoes were the single row, and that it was the one that I didn't like as much (I personally preferred the square toe cap, the one with no spectator detailing). The 10% is coming from a bit of memory deficiency, but I'm certainly more sure than not that the 274H were the purported C & Js. (by the way, the leather seemed better on that pair than on the Sargents; but I don't know if that was a sort of placebo effect).

It would be awesome if they were C&J's. Thanks for the info.

IMO, the Sargents sold at Brooks are at least 95% as good as the C&J's so you get great shoes either way.
