Hi,

I've been thinking of purchasing Brooks Brothers Classic Navy Peacoat, which retails for about ~$550. I want to know if anyone has any other brand to recommend if I'm spending that kind of money. (eg. Mind as well get RL or deck out the extra for a Burberry peacoat).

Thanks.

Walked into the BB store last year unknowingly during their Winter Clearance sale. Picked up that Peacoat for a little over $250. Found a navy one in size Small and I could not ask for a better fit. Love this thing. I'd suggest waiting for the winter clearance. I've been eyeing a Camel wool duffle coat that I plan to snag on sale this year if I can

When was the winter clearance? Late January?

I have the Jcrew Authentic Peacoat. It's 100% wool. To me, and I tried the BB peacoat that same day, the Jcrew coat is pretty comparable. I got it for only 200 or something. And I think there is a 30% at Jcrew now... so it's retail of like $300 will come down to around $200.

And I got mine in Charcoal, which I like better than Navy, but Jcrew has that as well.

The BB coat is nice, but not worth $550 in my opinion.

winter sale starts day after xmas so 22 days if you can hold off, after semi-annual starts clearance, aka the prices drop more, however it's also a gamble for sizes. they do price adjustments for 2 weeks. if its not a common size ie xl then i would hold off, if it is a common size, buy it then price match in the event of further reduction in price they generally start 40-50% off for sale, then in clearance goes to 60% off, and rarely 70%

You can buy it on sale and then price match it 2 weeks later at BB? Am I reading that correct?

I took advantage of the RL sale several weeks ago and got an RL peacoat for ~$280. For me that sealed the deal.

In hindsight, I would suggest others to follow the sales and don't buy it at retail.
