Gentlemen -

I recently came across these ties at TJ Maxx and bought several since I liked the colors/patterns [I'm conservative when it comes to ties]....however, when I compared the quality to some of the Jone's NY and Nautica's also on the rack, the BB's didn't seem any better constructed and actually felt lighter. I have read here and elsewhere that BB's ties, while not "top of the line", certainly are of decent quality....to me they seemed the same quality as most of the other ties on the rack. Am I missing something or is the BB "Makers" label a lower end BB product?
Thanks...

Makers is on the label because BB makes just about all of the ties it sells and sells none with anyone else's label.

It is the main line.

346 is now the outlet line, but used to be a starter line.

Brooksgate was a junior line back in the 80s.

There is also the University line of narrower ties, but I think they were stupidly discontinued.

I don't think it's an issue of lower end lines or whatnot. I've just never really been that impressed with the quality of Brooks Brothers's ties.

Yes, I just picked one up and it says WPL 2831. Anyone know what that is?
Both Behar and Ted Baker have that on the tag too.

Brooksgate is older than the '80s. I think it began in the '60s considering that Richard Nixon was a fan.

Probably has to do with the fact that they're all manufactured by the same company: http://www.superbainc.com/prodlines.asp

Did he send "plumbers" to break in to the Brooksgate department to steal ties?

Wow, that explains a lot. Thanks for the link.

Brooks' ties are not bad, not great. In general, they are around the same level as Talbott's regular line and the ones Talbott makes for stores, IMO.
