My 13 year old son is 6’2” and skinny (155 lbs). He has a 36” chest, 32” waist, 33” inseam and has an interview coming up for which I’d like him to have a new blazer. I found a 38R Madison and it fits well (ever so slightly too big in the chest) but is too short (button about belly button and 25” sleeves not cutting it He wears a 14 1/2x34 shirt.

I found a 39L Madison, but am concerned it will be too big. Is it possible a Fitzgerald 40L would work?

38R Madison (fits well)
Shoulder: 17.75
Width: 20.5
Length: 30.75
Arm: 25

39L Madison (available at consignment)
Shoulder: 17.75
Width: 21.25
Length: 32
Arm: 26.5 (would need to be shortened)

40L Fitzgerald (available at consignment)
Shoulder: 17.25
Width: 21
Length: 31.5
Arm: 26.375 (would need a hair shorter)

Thoughts on these two alternatives?

Yes, he probably needs a Milano or 38L Regiant, but not currently an option as I’m buying used.

To start with, he’s 13 so chances are whatever you get him, he will outgrow it quickly. So you need to keep the cost down as this will probably be something he’ll be able to wear for about a year.

How do the shoulders fit? The rest can be altered without too much cost. Based on your description of him, I’d think that the Fitzgerald would probably be best. The sleeves can be shortened.

The 38R Madison fit sounds tempting, but if it’s too short it will be a challenge to lengthen it.
