According to the Esquire handbook, the best cashmere is found in Mongolia and China, and is rated on the length of each thread

The good stuff will cost the manufacturer over $100 for enough to make a single coat

The handbook also said that the cheaper cashmere will actually leave a residue on your fingers after rubbing it

I tried this on my Black Fleece cashmere and got no residue, fwiw

FWIW, at the end (two or three years ago,) Murray Allan which is a very well known Scottish Producer of cashmere knitwear that went out of business two years ago was pushing a line of Italian Cashmere processed by Guggiari that was sent to Scotland and made into knitwear by MA.

I've got three of the BB 3-ply Italian, made-in-HK v-necks. I've been disappointed with how quickly they've pilled. They're not so bad as to be unwearable, but they're certainly not what I expected for the (list) price. Maybe the next (Scottish) iteration is better, but I wouldn't recommend buying the ones that I have.

The cashmere sweaters at BB Factory Stores went down to $180 on Black Friday weekend. I almost got one in a very nice brown, marked "Made in Scotland" but refrained since I was really looking for a crew neck and these were all V neck.

I also could not determine whether or not they were 346 or Retail BB quality, or if there's a difference when it comes to BB cashmere. I noticed that some of the sweaters were tagged "346" and only a couple were not. However, ALL of them had the retail price of $348... marked down to $180 after discounts.

Hm..went to Brooks today and they have Cashmere sweaters on sale for 50% off. All I remember was that the sweaters said made in Scotland, not sure if it was 346, but they retailed at $348. So for 50% off they are $174. What do you guys think, is it worth it to buy?

BB 346/Outlets do not carry cashmere under the 346 label. What they are carrying this year is simply the real BB stuff from last year.

Yes. Definitely worth it at <$200.

I tried one on recently and it fit like a bag of smashed assholes, material felt pretty good though.

I'm just disappointed how everything is made in China. Yes, I know Chinese textiles have various tiers of quality, but for the prices they charge for retail, can't they at least stamp a "Made in Italy" or "Made in USA" tag on them by finishing a button or something? The entire "Country Club" line is made in China. Hard to imagine a group of wealthy men dressed in Chinese-made clothes. On the other hand, for some reason I think of "Made in Hong Kong" as better than China.

I have evidence otherwise. I own an excellent DB navy blazer with gold buttons from the BB Country Club line. It is marked Made in Italy in the collar. It is admittedly fused but the cloth is great and the fit is very good. I can recommend it, even though it is not canvassed.

Have a good one
