    Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a herringbone tweed sport coat in grey and am considering this BB coat: http://www.brooksbrothers.com/Fitzg...ar_MM00159_Color=BLCK&contentpos=55&cgid=0217

Can anyone tell me where this coat is likely made? I don't want anything made in China or any other third world nation. USA, Italy, Canada, are all fine. Alternatively, if anyone can suggest a similar herringbone tweed coat meeting these specifications, I would much appreciate it.

O'Connell's should have some nice made in Canada or US versions. More expensive though.

Re the BB coat, the fabric is still made in the UK.

Harris tweed cloth is by definition made in the UK.

OP, I suspect most jackets you find OTR will be made in China, including jackets sold in the UK. I have BB stuff that is labelled made in China, although I don't know about this particular jacket. I'm not sure what you have against China, but if you're so against buying something from there, go to a bespoke tailor and have them make you something in Harris tweed...

That's correct, for it to be called "Harris Tweed", the fabric has to be hand-woven in the Outer Hebrides, Scotland, from locally produced wool. But where the jacket was actually assembled, that could be anywhere.

It says "imported", which is a common euphemism on United States websites for cheap labour countries like China, Vietnam, Cambodia, India, Bangladesh, Honduras, etc.

I wonder if Scotland is classed as third world, cheap labour or emerging market?

On a related note, I thrifted a BB 1818 Madison tweed sports coat on Friday and put it up on eBay today. The label says "Fabric woven in Italy / Made in China". The conspicuous "Made in China" tag isn't very appealing and I nearly passed it by until I saw the1818 label. I was surprised that BB would manufacture this line there.
