Hey!

I just came back from Brooks Brother and I'm interested in picking up this suit.
Milano Fine Stripe 1818 Suit

I never owned a Brooks Brother suit, but they presently are having a 20% of with your Brooks Brother card—so this would become $800. Worth it? Should I go for pin stripe blue or grey? I don't have either, I only own one blue suit.

Also on that note, I tried the 38R and it fit perfect in the shoulders but a tad tight on the chest.
I tried 40S and it fit good, not perfect on the shoulders, but perfect on the chest.

Would I be able to get the 38R and have it pulled out a bit to fit a little looser? is that possible? or can I only go down? And when I mean the 38 fit perfect on the shoulders—amazing.

Its for my engagement party—few friends are recommending I just go to Zara and grab a cheap $400 suit but after trying on both suits within minutes of each other—I want the Brooks Suit.

I don't know what to do...any advice is welcomed.

They *do* make this suit in a 39R; perhaps see if your sales rep can find it in a different store and have it shipped in. I have one very similar to the one you've linked and have been pleased. The fit is small though: my 39R has a chest measurement of 20.25; that's more like a 38 in standard measurements.

You could try a 38R in the Regent cut (second slimmest). If you want something middle of the road, there has been a lot of talk about Suit Supply on the forum (see thread). They have a store in NYC.

Thanks for the quick replies. I'm going to call and see if any other brook brothers has a 39.

I have to match my fiancé—she's wearing a pink dress that has grey details. She prefers me getting a grey suit. and having a bit of pink in my tie. I really don't want to match—so im trying to find a compromise. ( something I feel I should start learning how to do..lol)

I wasn't planning on looking at a navy pin strip suit, but when I saw it and tried it on—I fell in love.

Is there anyway I'd be able to match her using the navy pin suit? any ideas?

or should I just grab the grey and purchase the pin strip later on.

Ideas?

Look man, the one place you don't want to mess with your future wife is at the wedding. Get it straight: you're just a prop; its her day! So if a bit of a pink in the tie and a sharp looking grey suit is what it takes, embrace it.

Not wedding—just engagement party with her and my family. I'm going to meet a lot of her cousines etc that I've never met before.:)

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
