Hello All:
I have lost alot of weight over the last year(44-46r to a perfect40r), and need help with a new collection...

I've already purchased a few Jos Banks suits(Sig & Gold line)decent for the $$.

Are BB suits any good?
I'm interested in only the 1818 collection:
*Fitzgerald
*Regent
*Madison

What does each line convey/express.?
I'm looking for a Business and Social suit, yet not a too conservative nor too "Square".
Elegant, understated.
for a Man 35-45 years old with wide shoulders and small waist.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated...

And I almost forgot; Where to Buy--online, Outlet store or Retail store? what's the difference?

First off, good for you for losing weight. It's hard to do, I've been slowing packing on weight this past year.

Are BB suits any good?
-Do you mean "good" as in the construction or the fabric?
-top of line BB suits are the "Golden Fleece" which has lots of handwork and full canvas construction
-the 1818 collection you are interested in are, quality-wise, about the same as the top offering from JAB. They are half-canvased, at best.

I didn't look too carefully at the different 1818 offerings, but I think overall this line has slimmer lapels, flat front pants, very 1960's ala JFK.

As far as where to buy, I suggest you go to a retail store to try the different lines and know exactly your sizes. The Brooks Brothers outlet would not carry any regular line suits, all they have is the "346" which is just bad. If you purchase a suit online you would not be able to take advantage of free tailoring.

The Fitzgerald is a great model. One of their more timeless pieces in my opinion.

The Golden Fleece line, as lee noted, is their best. Very well made, nice fit and finish. What is your price range?

You should easily be able to find a BB GF on sale for that price. I've occasionally come across GF suits marked down to $498. Good luck.

As long as you are not in any urgent need for a suit, then wait until the BB Friends and Family sale, which will knock the price of the Golden Fleece down to the 3 digits instead of the usual 4 digits.

Beware, however, that the Ready to Wear Golden Fleece suits are not in the style of the 1818 line, which I think looks best on a slim, tall man.

Will the " Friends and Family sale" be online and retail?

If you want the best modern-looking suit in Brooks Brothers' lineup, look for the Regent. It's a much better suit than the Fitzgerald. The Regent has very light shoulder padding, a slim silhouette, slim lapels, pick-stitching, double vents, and flat front pants.

Hey new guy-

Welcome, and thanks for an informative post. However, it does help to check the date of the last post on the thread before resurrecting it from the dead.

Well since it's alive now, do you think 36R to 38R would look better proportioned in the BB Regent or Fitzgerald? On the website, the models in the fitzgerald almost look like emo punk rockers.

I just purchased a double breasted GF suit for exactly that much. It's off having the surgeon cuffs put on, but I promise to post photos when it comes back.

GF is running on sale for 898 and 1818 line is @ 598.....this is for all pre-08 fall, current fall model isn't on sale..

And i would always go to the store and get the sizing done, and buy it online if you want afterwards.
