Took a two hour drive today and flirted with a Black Fitz 1818, eventually to drive home empty handed.
I really wanted a nice black suit but could not bring myself to spend $750.

Could someone suggest an alternative w/out sacrificing quality?
I've looked online (blufly, last call) but have not really seen anything under $500.
Surely there are other sites or sales combinations that I could look into ...
Thanks in advance for your help.

suit supply. I think this will be my go-to answer to "new suit under 500"

No one needs a black suit other than at funerals IMO.

    Thanks. I'll check them out.

I'm just having trouble understanding how people are getting BB 1818, or Hickey Freeman Mainline suits for $300-$400. I've been searching all over and never see similar bargains.

This. BB 1818 retail is insanely expensive, and the FF sale was only 25% off making them still expensive. Would much rather go SS.

    These are both in Europe.
Could some suggest an American based co?

? The "Buy and Sell" section of the Forum. Look for threads started by Steve Smith selling Brooks Brothers goods. (Also, Suit Supply is not only in Europe).

You're a smart man not to spend $750 on THAT. It's alright, but BB is WAAAAAY over-priced IMO. I'm not a brand whore. What "quality" do you want?

PS: Why a black suit? Why not grey or blue?

Already have a blue and gray.
Really wanted a black for future wear.

I wouldn't drive two hours to see a woman, let alone a suit, if I was leaving "empty handed." You're obviously a more patient/indecisive man than I am.

As far as your question goes, no, you didn't miss out. Paying that much for a BB suit is reckless. Unless you're in an extreme pinch and you need a suit FAST, I wouldn't recommend spending the type of money that BB wants for one of their suits.
