My BB cordovan penny loafers arrived today and in a word: Wow. These are amazing shoes. The cordovan is very supple and soft, which is completely unlike the rather stiff and not particularly comfortable cordovan on my Alden norweigan laceups.

I thought cordovan was generally stiff, but this is so comfortable. These are just great shoes to pick up whenever there is a BB sale.

Highly recommended.

I think they list for $488, so at 25% off they come to $366. I picked up a pair of cordovan leisure handsewns the week before at only 20% off

. I love mine, too, though I'm still breaking them in (they're a little tight over the instep).

Yeah, that sounds right. I bought a bunch of stuff and it is arriving in drips and drabs, and they are charging my credit card in bits as well, so I really don't know. Cordovan shoes aren't always included in their sales either, so to get them at 25% off is quite a steal.

Yeah, the fine print for the BB sales excludes cordovan shoes, but you're the third forum member I know of for whom the salesman has made an "exception". I thought I might have gotten the sale price on the cordovan shoes because I was buying 2 pairs, one calfskin and one cordovan, but he gave me the discounted price on both pairs without my even asking.

Hi thinman-i'm impressed by your knowledge and commitment to good foot wear-ie cordovan and calf skin-does anyone hold any kudos for florsheim these days-? i have just bought some florsheim cordovan wingtips during a recent vist for about $400 and theyre not quite as beautifully crafted as the ones i remember buying on 5th 10 years ago- these were made in india-though bought from a florsheim shop- i feel a bit confused, but nevertheless love the width of these wingtips in an E fitting- brill shape!

Those are great shoes, enjoy them.

The softness and comfort you mention may be because the BB penny loafers from BB are unlined, and are exclusive to BB.

Do folks size down or order true to size for the Brooks version of the Alden penny?
