The shops were just called Saxone though and not limited to Scotland. They were probably the best bet for leather shoes in the High Street. Then they closed and Lilley and Skinner and Timpsons had gone too. High Street options were more limited.
Yes,its not just recently that shops have been closing,Freeman Hardy Willis was another name that I can remember (thats all that I remember about them).

I dont think that it will be just shops closing,I can see some of the famous shoemakers going too.

A great idea for a challenge,I expect that most people own a pair of Brogues and it will be interesting to see how they wear with casual clothes.

I noticed these from Cheaney,I am not a big fan of Brogues with fabric (or metal eyelets) usually but I think that these look pretty good.

Went to several shops today and took a few pictures...

Grenson Fred.jpg

All Grenson with Commando soles. The "Fred" brown brogue boots (second from right) are rather nice.

Grenson Archie.jpg

Grenson "Archie", with Commando soles, i quite like them. Too bad about the metal eyelets.

Are these Avons? There are some great looking shoes in that style.
Yes the Avon, these are a new version.
I know that Cheaney have made shoes with Harris Tweed as have Berwick 1707 (for House of Bruar) but I think that the Black Watch looks really good.

I don’t notice much difference with the bison. I ordered these with bison just because I wanted that heavy texture.
Yes the grain (maybe grain is the wrong word) is very noticeable,I think that the problem with some grain leather is that it looks ok up close but from 3 or 4 feet away it could be smooth which is a bit pointless.
