Tricker’s Ilkley in brown zug grain.

I wore them yesterday for their maiden voyage and they are absolute tanks. I did a lot of walking in them and by the end of the day was fatigued in my ankles, like I’d just done a workout that targeted underutilized muscles 😂

Probably the sturdiest and heaviest shoe I’ve ever worn!

Do you have the Ilkley on leather soles or commando? From the photo, looks like leather which is the same as mine. They took a while to break in but are worth it. They are roomy, even for my wide feet, which lets me wear decent winter socks.
They are indeed a heavy shoe - I think zug leather might be from recycled Swiss Panzer 68s.

Mine are also on leather soles and are also roomy for my wide-ish feet. I generally take 8.5 UK but size down to 7.5 UK for Tricker's 4444. They're regular bricks! I'm looking forward to breaking them in some more.

Does anyone know who makes these New and Lingwood brogues? I’ve read Crockett and Jones?

I'm not an expert. I don't know every major brand and I've never worked in the industry so maybe someone else will weigh in. Here are some thoughts:
  • The itshide sole may or may or not be original but is from a Northamptonshire company.
  • The storm welt is also consistent with a quality 'country' shoe.
  • The grain embossed leather and colour look similar to some of my Cheaneys. Obviously I don't know what these feel like.
  • I don't recognise the markings nor the red lining.
  • If the sock says 'real leather' that could suggest a lower quality if it's original.
  • UK manufacturers selling under their own name seem less likely than imports to list the EU size first. They may have been made for a retailer though.

Do you coordinate your watch strap with your shoes or belt?

  • Always

  • Never

  • I don't pay attention
