Hey guys, first post here, but this has definitely been my go-to place whenever I'm unsure about something style-related. So I'm looking to get a decent pair of shoes to wear with my black/charcoal suits. I wanted to go for a standard black cap toe oxford, but now I'm looking at this pair that has some broguing. Are these acceptable to wear in business situations? I've read that this brand (which is just a DSW house brand apparently) is actually very good for the price. Thoughts?

(I'm looking at the black BTW)

Excluding interviews, yes, appropriate. Black suit - no.

The shoes you linked to are derbies, not oxfords. Which is more of a problem than a bit of broguing in terms of suitability for wearing with suits. Also, they don't look brilliant, probably not goodyear welted.

The problem is not Derbies vs Oxfords. The problem, if one has high standards, is that the shoes in question
look cheap and poor quality. It depends on one's field whether such choices even matter.

I think you can do better than those. Spend a little more, get shoes that are much nicer. Every time you put them on in future, you'll be glad you got even nicer shoes.

Wearing derbies with a suit is a bit of a minefield. With the right derbies and the right suit, it can be fine. But with a "business" suit, nine times out of ten it looks off. One of those things were you have to know the rule before you can break it successfully.

As for the quality, well that's what I was getting at in my last sentence, albeit less directly. With a bit of work OP can probably find much better for that price or a little higher.

OK for all but an interview, I think.

For $149.00, you can sometimes get Allen Edmonds for Brooks Brothers seconds from Allen Edmonds, which might be a better shoe investment for you. Swan around the Allen Edmonds thread to get more information.

Brogues are fine, those shoes are less so. Don't mention black suits here, they are not popular on SF to say the least.
