Some cobblers do it very well too.
I what country are you ? I know there is a specialist in England.
A guy who has Zardoz as avatar needs to be helped.
Thank you, yes I am in England. I messaged the shoe healer who said they could do it but could not guarantee the results… Pretty much everyone on here needs help - a Zardoz Avatar is but a minor red flag.

I don't think dyeing the welt is something you need to go to a cobbler to. Just pick up some dark brown dye and a wool dauber, maybe protect the uppers with some painters tape and go at it. Don't even need to worry about applying it on the rubber sole as the dye will just wipe off.

Yes it is the Shoehealer indeed. Recommended.
@lurker33 yes you can do it yourself but it won’t last, you will have to do it again and again and it won’t look really good.

Timpsons made the best brogues with their "Royals" collection, and they were very popular with Suedeheads and Skinheads in the late 60s and early 70s. As far as I know, Florsheim Imperial longwings were in a similar style but are no longer made. The best current form is Alden's. Again, their longwing Blucher is up there with style and high price. I recently visited America and purchased a lovely pair from their New York store.
Do you know the thread « Mod to suedehead » here? Used to be a great thread about « Originals » and the Royals have been discussed at length, as The Ivy Shop, The Squire Shop, etc.
The Allen Edmonds McNeill were another good alternative, but sadly they stopped the production a few years ago.

Hi Clouseau, Yes, that thread was brilliant, and there was great chatter about the style. Cheers

It’s definitely ugly.
You can try to dye the welt though.

I don’t think it is ugly. It is a feature of the shoe style. If you don’t like that style fine.

In my mind every shoe company makes way more shoes I don’t like than I do like. I just buy shoes I like and don’t worry about the rest.

Were you there under another name ? Cheers
I was just a reader and didn't contribute. I did start a thread about 5 years ago if anybody had information about a shoe company called "Faith Royals", as their loafers and brogues were mentioned in some of the threads. I didn't get a single response so now I wonder if there was such a shoe company. Again and supposedly their tasselled loafers and long wing brogues were popular with Suedeheads & Skinheads. Maybe, it was Timpsons after all.

@pompeypaul i just checked. I remember i only saw "Faith Royals" mentioned in the Jim Ferguson Fashion notebook (i suppose you too). It might be an error.
The "Royals" sold by Timpson had the Mention : "Royals by Timpson" on the label, while the ones sold at the Ivy Shop (and the other J.Simons boutiques), Had only "Royals" (and Made in England) written in the shoe.

@Clouseau Yes, it's very confusing regarding the name "Royals". Which company made the ones in your photo. I'm pretty sure I've seen the Timpsons made shoes with the three lions ( I think that's what the emblem is inside the shoes)

Those were sold by Timpson (without s).
The ones sold at the JSimons shops also had the three lions emblem, so I suppose they were made by the same shoemaker.
