My Brigg umbrella arrived a few weeks ago from London and I have so far been extremely impressed with its construction and style. However, in reading some other threads I noticed it mentioned by some that their Brigg has 10 ribs, while mine has 8 and I was wondering why. Have construction methods changed, or is this because I opted for a nylon canopy instead of silk? Please enlighten me if you know.

I don't know anything about umbrellas, but wonders what advantages silk got on nylon for the canopy? Is it just "lux" or are there any real advantages? I mean, the price-diff is huge.

FAIK 8 ribs is their standard frame. 10 ribs might be custom.

That's exactly what the salesman told me when I was at the shop. It's the traditional covering and it "sounds more romantic".

However, the chemist in me did some research beforehand and determined nylon was the superior material to use for an umbrella.
