It's worth calling classicluggage.com if you're interested in SAB bags at the moment.

This is the most beautiful example I've ever seen - don't see it on the site, is it NOS?

    thanks!

sorry, have been away from the forums. It was used from ebay, probably at least 5 years old.

    My first post ...

I have two bags from Glaser Designs, the 19 inch Transaction Bag in chestnut cowhide and the Day Bag (which measures 17" x 12" x 4") in espresso cowhide. The Transaction Bag came first. I loved it's carrying capacity -- it's practically a small suitcase.

The photo above illustrates one of the things I like most about these bags: the side pockets tucked subtly under each handle, which make for easy access but offer a bit more security than the usual side pouch. While the Transaction Bag is great for hauling lots of gear, I needed something smaller for everyday use, hence the Day Bag:

The Day Bag adapts the best features of the Transaction design to the scale of a typical briefcase, much more practical for the day-to-day.

One more bag. I bought this one before the Glasers pictured above and still use it whenever I just need to carry a few things -- especially when I leave the laptop behind. It's made by Tusting.

I happened to be in Cheyenne, the headquarters of Sierra Trading Post, and it turns out that if you skip the showroom and head straight to the warehouse, they're happy to bring anything you like out for inspection. (The showroom is reserved mainly for the sporting goods.) So I had them bring out all the Tusting stuff, and after going through everything, I settled on this one. There's no comparison, quality wise, between this and the Glasers, but its still well made and a very handy design, a bit like a portfolio with side pockets and a handle.

The Glasers look to be beautifully made; I just wish I liked the designs.

Me too. It actually bugs me when there's something like this that is so well made but I can't convince myself that I like how it looks.

I agree. In particular I hate the prominent placement of the logo. I'm sure the leather quality is excellent but I'll take a well made British bag over this any day.

I can relate. I'd always imagined a SAB flap-over bag in tan bridle hide would be the thing that completed me (not a unique fixation to have around here, I know), and my first glimpse of the Glasers online didn't change that. The Glaser flap-over doesn't appeal to me at all, and at first neither did the Transaction bags.

Over time, though, seeing the photos posted at SF, I started to change my mind. Then the Tusting bag I posted above converted me from traditional-looking flap-overs to open-top briefs with side pockets. Now that I've used the Glaser(s) firsthand for awhile, I couldn't imagine parting with them. They're beautifully made, inside and out, and extraordinarily functional. Of course, none of that matters if you don't like the look ... it's worse, as you say.

I love my Glasers, though ... which is not to say I wouldn't still like to have the SAB.

New (well second hand) SAB (not sure of the model - it's very similar to the Westminster Wrap...) [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] Was actually really surprised with the weight of it when it arrived - a lot heavier than I was expecting....
