Frank Clegg x Rancourt Everyday (FC names it Commuter) Briefcase in Tan. H
andles were hand-sewn by Rancourt in Maine
Does this briefcase stand up on its own or does it need to be propped up against something? I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on one of these.

I'm looking at these two briefcases from Frank Clegg (https://frankcleggleatherworks.com/zip-top-briefcase.html) and Lotuff (https://lotuffleather.com/collections/briefcases/products/leather-zip-top-briefcase). They appear to be identical in design. The Frank Clegg bag, however, uses harness leather. My question is: Is there any reason why I should spend $230 extra dollars on the Frank Clegg bag?
I can't comment on the price differential but while they are very similar they are not identical, the biggest difference is that the Clegg is a two compartment model while the Lotuff is a single compartment. That may/may-not matter to you but it is a substantial functional difference.

I think it can stand up by itself if it's loaded evenly. Here's one in what I'd assume is an even softer leather that looks to stand up perfectly fine.

My well-worn slate gray Valextra two gusset. What I like about the Valextra cases is that they use a sturdy grained calf (the same they use in all their bags) that is light weight. Throw in files and a laptop and it still doesn't break your arm.

Brioni olive green
On paper, olive green doesn't sound appealing; but the tone/patina on that make it just right. Suddenly, I'm smitten.

I just purchased a pre-owned Coronado Bison Briefcase and am really loving it. At first I thought it was too slim, but it carries everything I need without feeling the need to overpack. It easily holds my calendar, a book or two, a legal pad, and my laptop. My only beef with this bag--and this really only applies to attorneys--is that it is not wide enough to carry files. It comfortably fits legal pads, but it would probably need to be 17" wide to carry files.

I believe Coronado still has the black version on sale for $299 (https://coronadoleather.com/collections/mens-sale/products/bison-briefcase-bc510-bc510bk)

I have the double gusset Frank Clegg in Chocolate Shrunken (for a slight uncharge). I like the heavy grain because it does not easily show water spots or other wear. Frank is great to deal with and a real pro.

Gents,

I have commisioned a brand new Rutherford's Chocolate Bridle Briefcase. It has a stunning fully covered red suede lining with pen loops and card holder lined in suede as well.

Handmade in England.

Very similar quality to Swaine Adeney Brigg.

It comes supplied with the matching Chocolate Bridle Leather Strap and Bridle leather key holder.

It's a 15 inch in size, and has a 3 inch depth. Single Compartment.

The MSRP is $1,400.00 and I will be offering it here for a limted time for a $490 + postage to your address.

The extra gusset matters as far as cost.
For the other bits, I sometimes find that Lotuff gear looks a tad sexier in photographs. On the other hand, when Lotuff & Clegg were together, I believe that Clegg was the craftsman and Lotuff was the money guy. I have no idea what the implications of that are.

If nothing else, Clegg (Fall River) was a tad closer to me (Boston) when I had a chance to visit the workshop. So that's where my Christmas present came from.
